Named after the 15th-century navigator Gil Eanes
Just as the fearless Gil Eanes charted new waters, defied limits and opened new horizons, our event carries his spirit of discovery and courage. TEDxPraça Gil Eanes brings together thinkers and creators from different backgrounds to explore fresh ideas.

the beauty of change
On 16 May 2026, TEDxPraça Gil Eanes explored one of the most powerful forces in life: change.
The theme draws inspiration from the humble caterpillar, a creature that must break down completely in order to transform. But did you know that less than 2% of caterpillars actually become butterflies?
Much like nature, change unfolds through uncertainty, challenge, and growth, whether personal, societal, or global. This event was a space to reflect on change across different fields and human experiences, and the beauty that emerges through transformation.

About TED and TEDx
In the spirit of discovering and spreading ideas, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
Our event is called TEDxPraça Gil Eanes, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxPraça Gil Eanes event, TED Talks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
